Seekers of Intrinity SG Costume Competition

Seekers of Intrinity Costume Competition Rules

The contest is open to any active member of the SG. All entries will be posted anonymously on the Intrinity website for all SG members to vote on. The winner of the voting will become the official uniform for the Seekers of Intrinity supergroup to be worn by all members when they reach security level 30.

As this will be similar to the S4 costume competition I shall be cribbing a lot from some of the official S4 Costume Competition rules. So all respect to the competition co-ordinators for creating the rules.

As per S4, instead of designing a single hero, you need to design a costume or costumes that can be worn by the various members of the SG. As the SG members vary a lot in size, shape and a mix of male and female characters the idea is to come up with a cool, coordinated look to act as the uniform for the SG.

As per the official S4 costume competition rules there shall be a number of steps to create and enter the competition.

Step One: Design your Costume(s) in City of Heroes
You should certainly be familiar with creating a hero's costume by now, but remember in this instance you're designing a costume to be worn by the SG as an official uniform. Because it is for the Seekers of Intrinity SG it will be restricted the SG colours and chest symbol. Apart from this restriction the rest of the design is entirely up to you.

Guidelines for costume creation are as follows:

  • Each entry - whether it's for one costume or a set of costumes - will comprise of one image showing all costumes, and one or more costume templates (see below for template details).

  • Try and create a costume, or set of costumes, that will work best in a team. Bear in mind your costume may have to be worn by male, female or huge characters - make sure it works for all body types!

  • Capes and auras will be allowed as the costume will be worn by all level 30 plus SG members when teaming as the SG.

  • Remember, you are designing a costume, not a character. Imagine that your outfit has to be worn by any hero - large, small, male or female. That means you need to ensure that your costume doesn't rely on body scaling, skin or hair colour, or a particular body type to look good.

  • You can only enter the competition once so ensure you are 100% happy with your entry before you submit it. Once submitted it can’t be retracted.

  • You can use any screenshot you see fit to show off your costume(s); for instance a screenshot of the character creation screen, or an in-game screenshot. Just make sure your costume looks good (be aware of lighting!)

  • You may use an image editing program to edit together multiple screenshots to display all costumes together. You may not, however, edit the costume's look this way.

Step Two: Note your costume details in a Costume Template
To absolutely ensure that your costume will be used as intended, we'll need you to give us exact details on how you made it. To do that, we suggest following a Costume Template. The template can be found at the end of the rules.

Step Three: Send us your costume images, and your Costume Template
Remember you can take one or more screenshots, but in the end you must submit just one image which needs to clearly include all of your costumes. When you're ready to send that file, follow these guidelines:

  • Your image must be a standard JPEG file, no larger than 1Mb, but it can be any resolution.

  • Please note: Images not using this file format, or over 1Mb in size, will not be valid for entry into the competition.

  • If you lower the resolution of your original image, keep the original file safe - we will need it if you win.

  • Email your final image, plus your Costume Template in .txt file format, to buggrit666@gmail.com
In the Subject line of the email, please enter SG Costume Comp (and your in game name).

  • The deadline for all costume competition entries is midnight Friday August 26th 2005.

  • Voting will open midday Sunday 28th August 2005 (to give us a day to upload the entries) and close 12 midday Sunday September 11th 2005.

Step Four: We post them and you vote for them
When all design entries have been submitted they will be posted, anonymously, on the Seekers of Intrinity website for all to see.

Once posted all SG members will be able to vote for their favourite design. Remember to vote for the costume you'd most like to wear - or see worn – as the official SG unform.

Voting will end two weeks after the costume nominations have been posted.

Step Five: You win! (Maybe)
When the final votes are counted and the voting ends, a costume design will be selected as the official SG uniform and worn with pride by all members – if we’re not too poor some inf may be thrown in for good measure.

Costume Template
A Costume Template is simple to make; just copy down all the details you’ll see on your City of Heroes costume creation screen. To make things a bit easier a colour grid has been included below to ensure the correct SG colours are selected. The two SG colours are (referencing the grid on the right) A1 and F7. Chest symbol has to be the current SG symbol "Swirl1". The Template ensures that anyone can re-create your costume exactly. Please make sure you note down everything in your costume on your Template - sometimes it’s not too obvious what choices have been made.

The Template itself is easy to create. When your costume is completely finished, go down the list of costume components clicking each one, and noting down the costume component name. Remember that your costume should not be dependent on a Body Type (including Head Shape), or a Skin Colour. Therefore, no details for Body Type or Skin Colour need to be included in the resulting Template. Example of body template below;
